Enzyme & Herbal Therapy

Enzymes and herbs are different kinds of substances used to treat all kinds of illnesses. I have received special training in enzyme therapy, and part of the practice of Asian medicine includes using herbal therapy.

Enzymes are chemicals that your body makes to carry out metabolic processes. These chemicals 'catalyze' changes from one chemical to another, and in the process are usually not used up. But sometimes we do run low—when we are sick, highly stressed, or simply as one of the effects of aging. Then it is a good plan to supplement with enzymes.

Howard Loomis, DC, has developed a sophisticated system of enzyme therapy, which I have studied in depth. In this system, enzymes are combined with herbs to accomplish a wide range of health goals—more than I can say here, but see www.loomisenzymes.com Using this system I can address not only digestion, but also many other systems including skin, respiration, circulation, muscles and bones, reproductive health, the immune system, and even the balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. This system of care is extremely safe, and, in my experience, remarkably effective.

Chinese herbal therapy has a long history—going back in book form at least 3000 years. Typically herbs are given in combinations. Some herbs are included to address the specific symptoms, and others are added to prevent side-effects and improve the body's ability to accept the treatment. As a result, a well-chosen herbal combination can be highly beneficial without causing distressing side-effects. Today herbalists all over the world are checking the safety and quality of herbs, and developing convincing research backgrounds for ancient combinations. I work with herbalists who double check my recommendations, and my patients improve.
